Formerly part of the Vicariate Apostolic of Port Moresby. Became Prefecture Apostolic on 16 July 1959, then the Diocese of Daru on 15 November 1966, and finally, the Diocese of Daru-Kiunga on 4 September 1987. It comprises the whole Western Province.
