On Sunday, November 24, 2024, Christ the King Parish in Tetere, North East Guadalcanal, celebrated a joyful occasion as 128 young people received the sacrament of Confirmation.
The event, held on the feast of Christ the King, also marked the end of the Catholic liturgical year. His Grace, Archbishop Christopher Cardone OP, led the celebration, joined by the Parish Priest, Assisting Parish Priest, two visiting priests from Noro Parish, and a priest from Auki Diocese.
The day was filled with vibrant and joyful singing led by the parish youth choir, creating a warm and festive atmosphere.
In his homily, Archbishop Cardone shared an important message about the meaning of the feast and the sacrament. He explained that Christ the King is not like an earthly ruler with power and riches but a king who reigns in the hearts of believers. “Jesus is the King of Heaven and Earth because He rules our hearts with love and faith,” he said.
The Archbishop reminded everyone of the gifts of the Holy Spirit—wisdom, knowledge, and
understanding—given in Confirmation to help young people grow in faith and lead good lives. He encouraged the youth to stay close to God, saying, “Confirmation helps you say yes to Jesus and no to sin. It shows you that we are created by God and meant to return to Him in Heaven.”
He also advised the youth to make good choices, avoid harmful habits like drinking alcohol or drugs, and listen to the Holy Spirit in deciding their future. He said the Holy Spirit can guide them to choose a good spouse, religious life, or other paths that honor God. “Pray the Rosary, do good, and trust God to lead you,” he urged.
The Archbishop also spoke to parents and guardians, asking them to support and guide their children with love. He said parents should encourage their children when they do well and lovingly correct them when they go wrong.
Fr. Robbinson Parapilly and the parish chairman thanked the Archbishop for his inspiring message and the parents for their efforts in preparing the youth for Confirmation.
The celebration ended with feasting and entertainment, leaving the parish community inspired and united as they prepare for Advent.
This special day not only closed the Church’s liturgical year but also reminded everyone of the importance of living with faith, love, and hope, guided by Christ the King
