New Catholic Church Representative Appointed to National Education Board

Port Moresby: As of February 14, 2025, the General Secretary of the Catholic Bishops Conference (CBC) and former CBC Education Commission Secretary Fr Lawrence Arockiaraj has been appointed as the new representative of the Catholic Church on the National Education Board (NEB).

The announcement was made by the Minister for Education, Hon. Lucas Dawa Dekena and is in line with Section 12(2) of the Education Act 1983, as amended in 1995.


Fr. Lawrence will now serve as the Catholic Church’s voice on the NEB, ensuring the interests of Catholic educational institutions are well-represented at the national level. With extensive experience in Catholic education, Fr. Lawrence brings valuable insight and leadership to the board.


Hon. Dekena has expressed his confidence in Fr. Lawrence's ability to contribute to the advancement of education in the country. He highlighted the importance of maintaining strong representation from all sectors of the education system most importantly Catholic Education.


Fr. Lawrence’s appointment is seen as a significant step for the National Education Board as it continues its efforts to shape educational policies and support the development of the country’s education system.
