The event was held at the school compound, marking a significant milestone for the school, which was reopened in 2021 after being closed due to the ethnic tensions. The school is now managed by the Catholic Archdiocese of Honiara Education Provider, under the leadership of two Dominican Sisters: Sr. Veronica Boki OP, the School Principal, and Sr. Stephanie OP, who teaches Agriculture.
In her graduation remarks, school Principal Sr. Veronica Boki OP congratulated the graduating students and commended their perseverance in overcoming numerous challenges throughout their academic journey. She extended her gratitude to the church, Guadalcanal Province, and the families who have contributed to the school’s efforts in providing education to the children.
The guest speaker, Mr. Jackson Meke, Catholic Education Provider Secretary, reflected on the theme and emphasized the importance of education in shaping families and communities. He noted that every school, including Ruavatu, is an extension of both the home and the church, and the students' achievements should be a source of pride for all involved.
“Education is a shared responsibility,” Mr. Meke said. “Although there are many challenges, we can face them positively and focus on growth. Have time for God and remain focused on Him as you reflect on these challenges.”
Mr. Meke also discussed the new Education Act, which aims to ensure that quality education is evident in the lives of all children, stressing that every student must receive an education of the highest standard. He further emphasized the mission of Catholic education at Ruavatu, which is to help students value education—a vision shared by the Guadalcanal Province when they handed over the school to the Catholic Church, confident that the Church would uphold this mission.
The ceremony concluded with a feast and entertainment provided by the students, marking a joyful end to the celebration of their academic achievements
